So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Organization of This Book
This book is divided into four parts, corresponding to the four layers of the Department of Defense (DoD) Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) model:
The Network Interface Layer. This part contains two chapters describing the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) technologies supported by Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista, and, in particular, how they encapsulate IP datagrams. This section also includes a chapter describing Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), a simple protocol that resolves the hardware address (typically a media access control [MAC] address) for a specific next-hop IP address.
