Investment Banking

Investment banking (IB) is often regarded as the holy grail of entry-level jobs when it comes to finance. This is not to be confused with commercial banking which deals with your everyday checking and savings accounts. While banks like JP Morgan or Bank of America offer a whole host of services, IB itself typically refers to a subgroup of those services. Investment banks act as financial advisors to companies. The most common topics on which they advise are mergers and acquisitions (M&A), equity capital markets, debt capital markets, restructuring, and leveraged finance.
