Today's Computers

The future of computer technology seems likely to repeat the previous 50 years. It appears that more and more computing power will be squeezed into smaller, more reliable, faster, and cheaper boxes. More and more people will use computers for more and more tasks, and computers will be networked to other computers.

What this means to the programmer is twofold. First, as more people use computers, more programmers are needed to write the programs for the computers. Second, as computers get more powerful and faster, older uses of computers (and therefore, older programs) have to be updated to take advantage of the new hardware.
