Job Titles

You should understand the kinds of jobs that are out there for programmers. Then when you look at the help wanted ads in newspapers, you'll have an idea of the qualifications and experience needed for the different jobs that are advertised.

The titles described in this section are fairly common in the computer industry, but they are not necessarily universal. Whereas the title for a job in one company might be Programmer Analyst, another company might give the same duties a title of Senior Programmer. The specific titles mentioned here, although open to change and interpretation, are common enough to describe most of the responsibilities and titles in most computer departments.
