CHAPTER 13Is Carmelo Anthony a Hall of Famer?

The fantastic website Basketball-reference.com has a Hall of Fame Prediction tool (see www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob.html). The site gives Carmelo Anthony a 98% chance of making the Hall of Fame and Manu Ginóbili a mere 20% chance of making the Hall of Fame.

Entering the 2019–2020 season, Carmelo (Melo) Anthony had scored 25,551 points, ranking 19th on the all-time player list. LeBron James was the only active player ranking ahead of Melo. Melo did win three Olympic Gold Medals and an NCAA title, but I don't think his pro career merits election to the Springfield, Massachusetts Hall of Fame. As you will see, he did not have a great impact on his team winning games, and he took a lot of bad shots. Through the 2019 season, his teams won only three playoff series in 15 years. On average, NBA teams win 0.5 playoff series per year (15 series per year divided by 30 teams), so winning 0.2 playoff series per year is not great.

Basketball-reference.com's Hall of Fame tool gives Spurs legend Manu Ginóbili only a 20% chance of making the Hall of Fame. Manu scored only 14,043 (regular season) points in his career.
