Getting ready

Use Android Studio to create a new project called OptionsMenu. Use the default Phone & Tablet option and select the Empty Activity option when prompted for the Activity Type. The Android Studio wizard does not create the res/menu folder by default. You can create it manually using File | New | Directory, or create it using the Android Resource Directory wizard.

Here are the steps to use the wizard:

1. First, right-click on the res folder and select New | Android Resource Directory as shown here:
