How to do it...

We can create or manipulate any of the standard layouts or controls through code. For this example, we will work with LinearLayout:  

1. Open the activity_main.xml file and change the layout as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"    android:layout_width="match_parent"    android:layout_height="match_parent" ></LinearLayout>

2. Add TextView with an ID value of textView, as follows:

<TextView    android:id="@+id/textView"    android:layout_width="wrap_content"    android:layout_height="wrap_content"    android:text="TextView" />

3. Add Button with an ID value of button, as follows:

<Button    android:id="@+id/button"    android:layout_width="wrap_content"    android:layout_height= ...
