Job-Hunting Advice

Graduate students, as well as serious independent artists, are always asking me about the best way to land their first job in the industry. This is a really serious problem as, in this corporate day and age, the notion of an apprenticeship (and even an internship) is not readily available to most career seekers. Additionally, the current trend for outsourcing has meant that a great deal of the standard studio work that would normally be completed in the home country (i.e., U.K. or U.S.) is now sent abroad, although the top creative jobs of animator, assistant animator, designers, modelers, and storyboard and layout artists do tend to remain with home-grown productions.
