Now that we have amassed our ideas about all the possibilities that lie before us, we narrow down our options to make it easier to make our final optimal decision. As we do so, there are certain things we need to consider: How many options do we need? Who can we enlist to help us narrow our options? What works for us? What doesn’t work for us? Are any biases affecting our decision?
The optimal outcome of this narrowing phase in critical evaluation is defining three (no more than five) options. As we’ll talk about in detail in the next chapter, you can recommend one, but it’s important to present at least three. Why? It’s psychological.
