10 Newsdesk management

The newsdesk is the centre of the news operation. Information arrives in a varying flow, depending on the time of day. Peak times tend to be the early morning up to the 8 a.m. bulletins (which on the vast majority of stations attract the biggest audience of the day as people get ready for work), in the hour up to 1 p.m. and once more in the early evening ‘drive’ time from 4 p.m. A big, breaking story can quickly generate numerous audio clips and a mountain of copy.
