11.3. Scripting iDVD

The last iLife application I cover in this chapter is iDVD. This application lets you create your own DVDs from images and movie clips. You can create slide shows with background music and select different types of effects for the transition from one slide to the next. iDVD comes with an assortment of built-in themes, which provide a good starting point for developing a new DVD. These themes allow you to easily add menus containing titles, buttons, movies, and slides and to provide a consistent overall look for your DVD. The following Try It Out examples help you become familiar with iDVD. This section is based on version 4.0.1 of iDVD.

11.3.1.1. Try It Out: Examining iDVD's Dictionary

As with the previous two iLife applications, you start to learn how to script iDVD by looking at its dictionary.

  1. Open the iDVD dictionary by dragging the iDVD icon onto Script Editor or by choosing FileOpen Dictionary from Script Editor's menu bar and then choosing iDVD.

  2. Under iDVD, select Commands. Take a look at some of the iDVD-specific commands, as shown in Figure 11-13. Notice the new project command, which allows you to create a new iDVD project.

  3. Examine the application class listed under iDVD. Notice that it inherits from the application class listed under the Standard Suite. Take note of the fact that the current menu property refers to the active menu of the ...
