About the Authors

Dr. Michael L. Shuler is the Eckert Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. His research has focused on mathematical models of cell, heterologous protein expression systems, bioremediation, plant cell tissue culture processes, and “Body-on-a-Chip” technology for drug development. Many of those technologies are being used commercially.

Dr. Fikret Kargi is a retired professor of Environmental Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir, Turkey. He was the former Chair of Environmental Sciences.
