It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

at the last moment. Unless you don’t want the job without a
certain salary level, make sure you ask for what they can afford.
So how much can they afford?
If a salary range has been quoted – or is quoted now – you
can reasonably expect to get the top end of the range so
long as you can demonstrate that you are worth
