It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Whenever you are looking for practical web security advice on security, OWASP should almost always be your first port of call.
For help with APIs, OWASP can also help: they have published the REST Security Cheat Sheet (https://www.owasp.org/index.php/REST\_Security\_Cheat\_Sheet).
Of course, as we have already discussed in this book, there are many different standards for building APIs and REST is but one of them; there are, however, some useful generic tips that we can leverage from this guide.
