Abstract
Understanding legal obligations related to data security is critical to effective business continuity and disaster recovery planning, since the impact of a disaster caused by a security breach can be made worse if legal action is taken by an outside party and compliance gaps are discovered. This case study provides insight into both state and federal legal obligations regarding data security, from the perspective of Deanna Conn, a lawyer who specializes in commercial and intellectual property litigation, intellectual property transactions, internet law, e-commerce, licensing and technology transactions, copyright, trademark, and trade secrets.
