Let's first explore Ceph service management on systemd—based Linux releases. Loved, hated, but never ignored, systemd is becoming increasingly prevalent within major Linux distributions. These include the Red Hat family: RHEL 7 and later, CentOS 7 and later, and Fedora 15 and later. Debian adopted systemd with version 8 (Jessie), Ubuntu as of 16.04 (Xenial), and SUSE as of SLES 12.
Installation of Ceph packages leverages udev rules and the native service management system to start configured services at boot time. We may also list and manage them individually or on a host-wide basis.
