The technology trend is shifting toward providing faster data rates and lower latency connectivity (see the Figure 4.1), the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) “standards body” has developed a series of enhancements to create the “High-Speed Packet Access [HSPA] Evolution,” also referred to as “HSPA+.” The HSPA Evolution represents a logical development of the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) approach and is the stepping stone to an entirely new 3GPP radio platform called 3GPP Long-Term Evolution (LTE).
