In the real world, we see the words tier and layer being used interchangeably. For example, you must have heard the terms presentation tier or presentation layer referring to the same set of code. Though there is no harm in interchanging the terms when referring to a set of code, you need to understand that the term tier is used when we are dividing code based on physical deployment requirements, and layers are more concerned with logical segregation.
