1 This paradox is termed specious present. Originally coined by E. R. Clay and broached by a man regarded by many as the father of American psychology, William James, in his seminal work, Principles of Psychology.
2 Franciscus Cornelis Donders (1818-1889) basically argued that the time taken to make a decision increases linearly as a function of the number of choices. Simply put, the more choices there are, the more time is taken to make the right decision. This was replicated by many researchers, most notably E. Hicks in 1952, whose work led to the formulation of the Hick-Hyman Law.
