Control module to decide which subsystems to invoke next. These subsystems operate on

the blackboard data to produce new data. Some of these operations may be performed

concurrently, but others must be executed sequentially. The problem of handling the

flow of control among the subsystems in an organized and efficient manner is especially

compounded when several queries are active at a single node. The Focus of Control

module draws on a body of largely heuristic knowledge to enable the system to function

efficiently. Some of the heuristics are geared towards pipelining the queries to avoid

synchronization and deadlock problems.
