Founding and then selling TransPerfect afforded me the opportunity to create a legacy. While I loved having an impact on helping the world communicate, and it was an important part of my life, it was only one part. It was my Act I. My goal was always to translate that success into something bigger. That's why in Act II, my mission now is to bring the world together by using my resources to achieve equality for everyone in society.
Okay, yes, your first reaction may be that this sounds grandiose and corny. Maybe on some level, it is. But, on the most critical level, with all the good fortune I've had, it's the absolute truth.
My Second Act
Once the auction was complete, I was excited to set up my next venture—my foundation. This had always been my ultimate plan, as both of my parents had exemplified and instilled in me the importance of service and philanthropy for as long as I can remember.
Right before the end of my time at TransPerfect, I was contacted by a magazine called Quoted about “being featured.” Several years earlier, amidst the drama and a month before the litigation, I was asked to pose on the cover of SmartMoney. It's only natural that I wanted to look my best for the magazine cover, so I was hoping to have my hair and makeup done so I'd present well.
