It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
In North America and other parts of the world where 3-phase, 120V/208Y services are commonly used, it can be challenging, even for some of the most experienced electricians, to understand how to calculate their power requirements because of phase relationships in 3-phase power and how currents combine in a circuit. The voltages in each of the three phases are 120° out of phase with each other, and when current flows through loads that are connected to different phase conductors, then those currents are also 120° out of phase with respect to each other.
