To calculate the current draw in a balanced, three-phase system, we can use the formula:
But for an unbalanced load, that formula doesn't work.
Suppose, for example, that we have five 3120-watt followspots that run at 208 volts with a power factor of 1. We can divide them into two groups of two fixtures with one left over, so we'll connect one from the black phase to the red phase, two from red to blue, and two from blue to black, as shown in Figure A6.1 below.
