TCP/IP: A Layer-by-Layer Review
Now that you’ve explored the OSI Reference Model and looked at examples of each layer, it’s time to look at another popular reference model, the TCP/IP model.
Although TCP/IP is often referred to as if it were a single protocol, it is actually an entire suite of protocols that controls the way information travels from location to location. The protocols included in the TCP/IP suite perform a wide array of networking functions. When individuals refer to TCP/IP, they are generally referring to the IP role of the suite, which is responsible for addressing and routing information.
