The action learning set

The main starting point for action learning is for each member of the group to bring a problem to the learning set or meeting. Learning sets provide a formalized structure in which people engage with the problem and are challenged, thus encouraging learning. They consist of four main elements:

• the person – who joins the group voluntarily;
• the learning set – the group of people who meet;
• the problem(s) – which each person brings to the meeting;
• the action – which is taken and learnt from.
