When calculating a client's net worth, financial advisors will include auto loans and credit card debt, but not the possessions that were bought were these debts. Why not? Your car, furniture, and most other household effects will depreciate and eventually become worthless. Maybe more important, if you were in a financial pinch, you couldn't really sell these possessions. After all, where would you sit and how would get around town?
