One of the first times one of the authors presented this competencies research, a participant in the workshop asked, “So what’s next?” We were a bit aghast at having just spent a year defining questions, forming partnerships, collecting data, doing statistics, and creating an HR narrative from the research to be asked, “What’s next?” We felt that we had just defined the competencies required for HR professionals to be personally effective and have business impact.
But we realize that neither the business world nor the required response is static. Change happens, and that is bound to require new competencies for HR professionals.
