4.1.2 Business needs
Nowadays, there are not many research institutions worldwide that can afford to
have a state-of-the-art high-performance computing infrastructure. For those that
cannot, there are private and public high-computing centers to which computing
jobs can be submitted and charged on demand and according to specific
policies. For many “customers“, this may be a fairly good option as far as the
cost/benefit relation is concerned but, for some institutions, having its own
high-performance computing infrastructure is imperative.
