10.5 Conclusion
Nowadays, performing research and development on cutting-edge technologies
quite often implies making use of high-performance computing infrastructures.
Such infrastructures have always been implemented by expensive and inflexible
computing systems that only a small parcel of the institutions could afford to
have.
In this chapter, we presented a grid-based implementation for a
high-performance computing infrastructure suitable for a highly technological
application: the development of microprocessor chips. This infrastructure is able
to deliver high-performance computing at a rather lower cost when compared to
an equivalent super-computer.
