It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Image restoration
In image restoration, the degradation is modeled. This enables the effects of the degradation to be (largely) removed. The challenge is the loss of information and noise. The following diagram shows the basic image degradation model:
In the next few sections, we will describe a couple of degradation models (namely inverse and Wiener filters).
