Marketing is often described as “sales.” Like advertising and promotion, sales is a visible part of marketing and an important part. If you call on a potential client to pitch your product and that person refuses, you don’t throw up your hands and walk away mad. You want to build a relationship so that when that person has a need for your product he will think of you.
Follow up is, therefore, an important part of marketing. It’s also an important part of a job search. If possible, you want to continue some kind of relationship with the people who interview you. If possible, you want to do something for them.
