It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

By default, the BrNN sends a Locate only to its current NNS, since that is the
only NN with which it ever has CP-CP sessions.
A BrNN is an NN inside and shows an NN image to its branch ENs. Branch
ENs don’t need to know that their NNS is actually a BrNN.
7.4 Implementation
The APPN Branch Extender function is implemented by the APPN Branch
Network Node, so its implementation involves configuring a CS/AIX node as a
branch network node:
