Although there are already extensive built-in network protection capabilities against threats from the outside, like DDoS and other common attack patterns, these are mainly protecting Azure as a platform. That means, that when one customer is affected by a DDoS attack, no other customer will be influenced by that. But that also means, that you still have to protect yourself against DDoS attacks against your own isntances.
