Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, Second Edition
by Louis Rosenfeld, Peter Morville
Name
Automated Taxonomy Generation
Synopsis
Software that uses pattern-matching algorithms to automatically generate categories or taxonomies.
Examples
Autonomy Categorizer (formerly part of “Portal-in-a-Box”), http://www.autonomy.com/Content/IDOL/APPOLS/Categorizer/
Comments
Proceed with great caution! The demos we’ve seen produce truly confusing category schemes with tremendous redundancy and mixed granularity. We don’t recommend exposing the raw results to your users. However, these could be useful tools for information architects performing content and classification analysis.
