This appendix lists commonly used LiDAR terms and introduces their concepts.1
A large collection of discrete points. In addition to 3D laser scanning, the point cloud can be obtained through image dense matching, sonar, and other means. The raw point cloud is usually stored in the standard binary file exchange format (LAS file). Each point contains not only X, Y, and Z coordinates but also point classification, return intensity, return number, number of returns, scanning angle, and color (red/green/blue [RGB]) information.
