Synopsis

This class is the base class for the high-level API user interface components that can be added to a Form. An Item has a label that is displayed near to and closely associated with the component itself. The label can be set using the setLabel() method and its value retrieved using getLabel(). The implementation is recommended to arrange for the label and the component to either both be visible or both be invisible when they are affected by the scrolling of the Form that they are part of.

On some platforms, some components, such as TextFields, may display a full-screen editor that hides the original Form while the user is interacting with them. When this is the case, the label may be displayed as part of the editor as a reminder to the user of the meaning of the value being entered.

Even though, in implementation terms, Item is very much like the AWT Component class, in MIDP 1.0 it is not possible to subclass it to create custom high-level components.
