A Bright, Shiny Future

For the January 2000 issue of CG&QA, I was invited, along with other industry notables, to describe my view of the world of 2020. Here’s what I want/hope to happen.
When I was about 15 years old, I performed a calculation. I said to my-UU self, “Let’s see, I was born in 1949. That means that in the year 2000,1 will be 51 years old. Most people live that long. Therefore I will probably live to see the year 2000.” What did I expect to see? Flat-screen color TVs? Yes. Colonies on the moon and Mars? Sure. Personal helicopter backpacks? Why not? Computers?
