Characteristics of the Relationship Between Provider and Recipient

It is also well known that the relationship between the feedback provider and the recipient influences receptivity. Although factors such as trust and openness have been known to have an impact, the present study shows that the degree of similarity between the provider and the recipient is also important. For example, receptivity was higher when the feedback provider and the recipient shared demographic characteristics such as race and gender. One can assume that a certain comfort level is attained in these pairings. Research in social psychology has clearly demonstrated that similarity between individuals facilitates communication and understanding.
