KNOW WHAT MATTERS AND COUNT IT
METRICS PROVIDE A GLOBAL FRAMEWORK and a cohesive narrative. They communicate both an organization’s intent and its commitment. They spotlight problem areas and possible solutions. They align productive focus on business processes that can lead to systemic change. They enable and promote accountability.
Metrics are instruments for change, but they are most effective when they are aligned with the local context and managers are held accountable for achieving them. When metrics and accountability work in concert with leadership commitment, a powerful change narrative, and embedding DEI into the processes and DNA of organizations, the change effort is likely to be far-reaching and sustained.
