To draw an animal in a believable way, you must thoroughly understand its underlying structure. By becoming familiar with the basic skeletal structure of a species, you can gain a better understanding of the form, movement, and posture of that animal. Drawing skeletons also helps you understand how and why a certain feature looks the way it does. The skeletal structure holds the muscles in place, and this affects how the skin and hair flow over the body.
