THE SETUP
The main flashes for this shoot are actually the two strip banks right behind our subject—they brightly light each side of his face, wrapping around from behind. They have egg crate grids (made of fabric) velcroed over the front of them to focus the light in tight to keep it from spreading. The flash directly in front of him is to fill in the center of his face, and this flash is much lower in power and softer.
