14 Multi-Pole Coil Three- or Two-Phase Linear PM Reluctance Motors
Linear electric motors discussed in previous chapters relied on primary coils that span a little more or less than a pole pitch. By pole pitch, we mean the half period of PM flux as the common attribute of many “novel typologies” with dedicated names.
In this chapter, we treat a variety of three- or two-phase linear PM motors that contain multi-pole nonoverlapping coils and are characterized by the following:
- Smaller copper weight per Newton of thrust and thus smaller copper losses; flat configurations are preferred, but tubular ones may be imagined also.
