It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Data not missing at random
In this case, there may be a particular reason why data may be missing. Continuing with the same example, suppose among the people who have cars, we have some license plate numbers missing in a certain pocket where they use a fancy font on their license plate and the OCR software is unable to decipher it properly and returns a missing value. This is a case of data not missing at random.
