Most of the core networking functionality in Windows Server 2016 is the same as in previous versions of Windows Server. However, even though there have been few changes, networking is still a critical functionality. Windows Server 2016 is used to provide network services to clients on the network. Domain Name Service (DNS) is almost always installed and configured on domain controllers to support the use of Active Directory. Frequently, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is configured on Windows Server 2016 to provide desktop computers and other devices with IP address configurations.
