Chapter 9Active Directory Domain Services
Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) was first introduced with Windows 2000 Server (it existed in Windows NT but was known just as a Windows NT domain). Active Directory is an LDAP-compliant directory service. Directory services go way back, before the introduction of the Windows operating system. In this chapter, we will discuss Active Directory as it exists today in Windows Server 2016. Because Active Directory is a huge topic, we'll skip any introductory material and cover the topics that admins deal with regularly. This means that some topics, even new features, will not be covered in detail in this chapter.
