After the decision has been made to sell a company or make acquisitions, the seller or buyer needs a counterparty. I always advise taking a proactive approach: Compile a list of prospective buyers or sellers. The key word here is prospective because the businesses on that list may or may not be interested in doing a deal. In my experience, most companies are acquisitive, which means that they’re possibly interested in making acquisitions. The tricky bit is finding sellers.
