Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is a technique frequently used by modern electronic power switches to control power input to inertial electrical devices such as DC motors, etc. Other applications include digital-to-analog conversion and communication, to cause lights to change their intensities, etc. By turning the switch between supply and load ON and OFF at high speed, the average value of voltage or current is input to the load. The longer the switch is in the ON state compared to the OFF state, the higher the power supplied to the load is.
