Outlook Anywhere, called RPC over HTTP in Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003, enables administrators to make Exchange Server connections available to remote users without requiring a VPN connection to the server’s network. Outlook Anywhere uses HTTP and/or HTTP Secure (HTTPS) over ports 80 and 443 to enable Outlook 2007 to communicate with Exchange Server.
Outlook Anywhere offers a handful of benefits:
Simplified remote access. Users do not need to establish a VPN connection to the server’s network to connect to Exchange Server. This simplifies the user experience and drastically reduces administrative overhead that would otherwise be required to support those VPN connections.
