Magnetic recording
Basic recording principles Recording tape consists of
magnetic material set in a binder on a flexible base that is
capable of being magnetised in a series of individual,
indivisible domains. As they pass the record head which
generates a varying magnetic field corresponding to an
analogue audio signal, each domain becomes magnetised
according to the strength of the field existing at the moment of
passing. When, in the replay mode, the tape again passes the
head, the minute fields existing around each domain induces
voltages into it which correspond to the original signal.
