Summing Up
The generation of custom Access reports on-the-fly, as demonstrated in this chapter, is a fairly advanced Office-programming technique, but one that has great power. One possibility is to create the report differently based on the data that is in the report—one type of report formatting for an upward sales trend, another for a downward trend, for instance. Another powerful use of this technique is to let users “design” their own reports. You can present a series of dialog boxes asking the user what he or she wants to see in the report, then generate the report according to the user's desires. This can involve some complicated programming, but the results—particularly in terms of a satisfied client—are often worth it.
